Criticism
Of Councilman Michael Fiure's Ethics Complaint From Office Of Attorney
Ethics Is "Understated, If
Anything" Says Bob Weland -
County Government Observer:
"Fiure Served Notice That Toms River
Town Hall Is For Sale When He Handed Gilmore A $90,000 'Legal
Services' Contract In Exchange For A Useless $90,000 County Job"
Weland Says
Watch Bob Address Freeholders in 2004
Bob Weland is a long-time critic
of the financial and ethical practice policies of the Ocean County
Board Of Freeholders and the local government in Toms River. Weland's
analysis of eight pages of ethics charges against Toms River
Councilman Michael Fiure ran January 16th In The Ocean
County Observer:
From Bob Weland: The
recent letter defending Councilman Michael Fiure in the face of
serious ethics charges is way off base.
|

Fiure and Gilmore took advantage of the
taxpayers with a $90,000 useless job and contract exchange, and
now Fiure faces serious ethics charges from his former life as a
lawyer |
Instead of saying the evidence is
incorrect or incomplete, Fiure tried to patronize the Office of
Attorney Ethics and his constituents by telling the media he has the
“utmost respect for the ethics committee and will abide by any ruling
on this issue.”
8
Pages Of Carefully Prepared Evidence; Fiure
Sold Out His Constituents The Day He Took Office
The OAE complaint is eight pages of
meticulously documented factual evidence showing clearly that Fiure
has demonstrated nothing but arrogant defiance of rules he took a
solemn oath to live by when he became a member of the bar.
We’re not talking about due process
here; we’re talking about the arrogance of an elected public official
who sold out his constituents the day he took office and has been
selling them out on a regular basis ever since.
Examples Of Fiure's
Contempt For The Public
There are numerous examples of Fiure’s
contempt for the public. Here are two of them:
Fiure served notice that the Town Hall
in Toms River is for sale three weeks before he was sworn in as a
councilman when the freeholders and Republican County Chairman George
Gilmore handed him a useless $90,000 “confidential aide” job in the
Parks Department.
Asbury Park Press:
Fiure's County Job "Stinks"
The Asbury Park Press said in an
editorial the appointment “stinks.”
Three weeks later, when the new Council
organized under Chairman Gilmore’s “guidance,” Fiure was the council
flunky who made the motion to hand Chairman Gilmore a $90,000 township
contract to do useless “legal work” on the township administrative
code.
Councilman Fiure Hid
Gilmore's OTB Letter From The Public
Recently, Fiure was instrumental in the
cover-up of the Off Track Betting application. He, the mayor and other
council members hid the May 30th letter from the public for
the entire 45 day “review” period until it was too late for the public
to do anything about it.
Betting & Boozing
Parlor Is "Good For The Community"
|

George
Gilmore is Republican County Chairman, lawyer for the Toms River
Regional School Board, and attorney for OTB gambling and boozing
interests, a direct conflict of interest |
Then Fiure testified at the “public”
hearing that the OTB parlor was “good for the community,” when what he
really meant was the Betting and Boozing Emporium was good for
Chairman Gilmore, the greedy lawyer for the Toms River School District
and numerous municipalities who is also collecting fat legal fees as
the lawyer for the gambling interests.
Fiure Betrays Basic
Republican Principles
There are no “vicious attacks on Fiure’s
character” as charged in the letter defending him; far from it.
Criticism of Fiure’s constant betrayal of traditional Republican
principles and his contempt for the people who elected him has, if
anything, been understated.
The arrogance of Gilmore’s political
machine is now in the news a little more often; this offers a glimmer
of hope that Fiure and the political bosses who own and sponsor him
will, one day, be shown the door by voters who resent the consistent
betrayal of county taxpayers.
