What will be gained from increasing the
population?
Increased burden on existing taxpayers!
Destruction of what makes this a place fit to live in!

Just what does the county Board of Freeholders
have in mind for us? Are we to become the next Newark? Union City?
Jersey City? They were once idyllic waterfront areas, too! After all
the deals have settled, what will be left? Officials that move out of
County? A barren wasteland of blacktop where once nature flourished? I
think NOT! Any politician that sacrifices or trades off a
HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT to serve the ends of sheer PROFITEERS, must be exposed and thrown out of office at the nearest
election!
The biggest fraud going is the claim that the increased population
will bring increased tax revenues! The increases in required services
will cost more that than the increased taxes will pay for! The new
schools alone! Sanitation! Forgetaboutit!
Ever consider that each year our schools graduate 1000's of
students, all ready to start up their own lives, drive their own
SUV's, seek their employment right here in our own County? Unwarranted
importation of outsiders makes for less for your children to
inherit here in our own county!!
May I strongly recommend that you go to your local
library and invest a few hours in

reading a piece of American Literary History. In The Pioneers, a
novel of 1823 by
James
Fenimore Cooper, wherein we first encounter Natty Bumpo,
better known as Hawkeye as you may recall from film versions of
The Last of
The Mohicans. In this first of Cooper's
Leatherstocking Tales
Hawkeye is 70 years old and living in the same hut for the past 40
years. When he built it he was in the middle of a great virgin New
England forest.
When we encounter old Hawkeye, the forest has been encroached upon by a
town of recently migrated settlers. Judge Templeton and his friends
who have followed him are the townsfolk of this new community. Cooper was born in
Burlington County, New Jersey. His own father established a settlement
that was to become the City of Cooperstown, NY, home of the Baseball
Hall of Fame. Cooper had a first hand look at what the clearing of
the forests meant to those who had lived in it all their lives.
Natty Bumpo citizen of the
earth who takes his very name from his skill at shooting, Hawkeye,
or more specifically, Deerslayer in this novel, describes the
wanton devastation of the settlers. The wholesale slaughter of
migratory birds, in the name of sport,; the wholesale slaughter of
fish, most left to die flopping on the shore, to rot in the sun, all
in the name of sport. Always taking more than was needed, sheer
gluttony in the eyes of the old man.
He watches the frenzy of the woodcutters despoil the virgin forest,
"God's Temple," he calls it, and always cut down more than was necessary.
Deerslayer recognized this as a war with Nature that has been the
history of the Europeans, who reproduced so rapidly that they ran out of
fishable water, huntable forest and lumber in the Middle Ages. These
insatiable Europeans came to this virgin New World and did the same
thing wherever they went!
Meanwhile back to
the Cooper story; the good citizens of Templeton have established
rules regarding hunting. They create Hunting Season. Deerslayer at 70
years of age is sentenced
by Judge Templeton to a day in the stocks, for slaying a deer "out of
season." Seen at the left, the Stocks are an old tool of punishment.
Passersby were allowed to taunt them as well.
There is a tradition of laying waste to Nature for the sake of
supposed benefits from over crowding. This is a complete lie. It is up
to the citizens to thwart any plans to despoil this County! We do not
benefit when one property owner sells off a thousand acres for their
individual profit! A few others profit, and we are left with 1000
acres or more of less woodland and less quality environment. IT WILL
RUN OUT SOME DAY! Look at NEWARK!
What is the current population of Ocean county? What will the
natural growth be based on the current population, their birthrate and
death rate? How will it grow exponentially? Can we really afford to
continue allowing unlimited sale of the land and unlimited migration?
Experts need to examine these issues, not part time politicos, or
people who stand to profit from the overdevelopment, be they elected
officials or private citizens. We must start monitoring the intentions
of those we elect to office. We the Citizens need to take a real
stand. Do you want your children deprived of reasonably affordable
housing in their home towns because all the land has been sold to
mansion builders???
