Dover Township Planning Board Is Made Up Entirely of Political
Cronies and Appointees!

This
editorial staff attended a meeting of the Dover Township Planning
board back in April, and the arrogance of the appointees to that board
prompted the creation of Ocean County Politics!
The meeting was to review the application of the Home Depot
Corporation to build another, yes another a Home depot on a a piece of
land described aptly as being part of the Barnegat bay, simply the
part not underwater at this moment.
The
Land in question is a 1300 acre tract that is actually a part of the
Barnegat Bay. It was divided from the actual bay by a bridging that
made straight line road building possible in the years before
environmental Awareness kicked in, in the late 1970's to be specific.
This area is a Cedar swamp. In
the late 1970's Dover Township's first
environmental officer, Paul Lander, stopped a construction plan by US
HOMES on this very tract of land.
That land was determined to be a Natural Phenomenon, a cedar Bog.
Nothing can be built on this. Even if they try to fill it a Cedar Bog
will always be a Cedar Bog and will eventually suck in all the
buildings and the swamp will have its way. Paul's life was threatened
at that time. He had to leave the area after he forced that land rape
to a screeching halt.
The public must ask "How did these Planning Board members get to be on
the Planning board?"
Isn't Town Planning a serious enough affair that it requires
accountable representatives filling the seats?
The time for accountability is long past.
Citizens are moving to remake Toms River's Governmental Structure,
creating a full time mayoral position. There are many other jobs that
may belong on the ballot if we are to expect accountability at all
levels. Clearly we cannot permit large land owners from being on
planning and zoning boards, nor those who service the landowners and
developers. And those seem to be the only people who ever rise to
these appointed positions. All the favoritism and nepotism must be
challenged. This is a fast growing county and requires a freshening of
the blood on a regular basis to eliminate the possibility of
corrupting influences getting the attention of an elected or appointed
official.
Should citizens of this township come to a meeting they were directed
to by their own town Council, only to be told that nothing they might
say can be of any use in the final determination? And that they are
lucky to get to be at? Is this really how America was intended to be
operated?? We do not think so folks. Nope. Please feel free to send
your comments.
We welcome any and all opinions.
